Either/Or

So I'm having a dilemma. After a few too many jackets and cold weather projects, I decided I needed sonething spring-like to perk me up.. I chose Simplicity 2936 (View A, the yellow flowered one, but with no sleeve ruffles). I pulled one of my oldest stash fabrics off the shelf to use for this blouse.

This fabric has not only been in my stash since I moved out at age 19, but prior to that it was in my mom's stash, and she liberated it from my great-grandmom's stash when my grandmom died when I was 8. This poor fabric had been folded up for well on 50 years, and no one ever cared enough to cut it up. Until now.

My dilemma is until I finally unfolded and washed this fabric, I don't think I ever realized that what I liked was the reverse of the fabric - when I took it out of the dryer, I saw all these little dark blue flowers and didn't recognize it at first. I think I like the reverse better, especially for this blouse.

The left side of the photo is the reverse; the right is the right side, which I don't find as interesting - the dark flowers are too dark, and I like the slight smudginess of the orange and aqua on the reverse. Both sides have a slight sheen, but there's more visible texture on the right side.

So it sounds like I've basically convinced myself here, but I'm open to opinions. Right side? Wrong side? Wrong side with accents of right on placket and sleeve bands?

I think I have to agree with you that I actually like the wrong side of the fabric as well.

I'm not sure how it would look with the accents with the right sides. I think I would do the wrong side for all of it.

I cant wait to see how it turns out.

My mom would say "you paid for both sides, use the one you like best". I like the "wrong" - no that's so judgmental- let's call it the "alternative" side best

Just do what is right for you; If you like the wrong side, use it! I wouldn't use accents of the right side, though, but that's just my opinion!

Go with the side you like best - YOU are the designer! Plus no one on the street is going to walk up to you and go shame on you...that blouse is made using the wrong side of the fabric! Y'know what I mean! :)

I'm with you, I like the reverse side better. I can't wait to see your finished blouse!

I agree, the "alternative" side is lovely. It reminds me of a lot of men's Hawaiian shirts from a certain decade - all made with the louder, brighter side facing inward. Much more subtle.
