Sunday night after posting I went back in and sewed the center seam on both sleeves, but I was too tired to press it, so I got up early yesterday morning and pressed both sleeve/shoulder seams and left the sleeves to rest on Evelyn's broad(ish) shoulders.
I love raglan sleeves - no easing, no swearing, just beautiful, curved shoulders! The shoulder pads I picked up at Jomar are for raglan sleeves, and they have a sleeve header built in. We'll see if it's enough or if I need to augment it.
The lining is complete in itself, though the coat is nowhere near ready to meet its lining. It really isn't that screamingly gaudy, but I can't get a decent picture of it with the flash, and without flash it's even worse. So for now, you'll just have to take my word that it's really not that bright.
I walked down to Karlin's at lunch today - I haven't quite forgiven them for the fusible hair canvas, but they're the only game in town - because I needed brown topstitching thread. No Coats & Clarks, and only one little spool of Gutermann in the right shade of brown. Hopefully that's going to be enough. Why can't stores be adequately stocked? When they complain that there's not enough business, perhaps - just perhaps - it's because we can never find anything to buy when we go in. Grumblegrumblegrumble.
I can say with some assurance that will never happen to me.
I *love* it. I came in on Monday with a GAP sweater and fretted ALL DAY someone else would have it on. Seriously. It didn't bother me in high school for someone to have my dress. But, I have no interest in that now.
Hah! How horrifying for your coworkers. Once in high school I walked into science class and my lab partner had the exact same outfit on as me. It was so excruciating that I feigned illness and left class.
No problem with that if you make your own clothes, though!
That reminds me when our firm (10 of us) went out for dinner and 2 had the exact same top....and the waitress as well! Of all the tops in all the world......
BTW, the coat is looking good :)
I'm really worried that Karlin's is going out of business. The last time I was there, the shelves and tables looked empty. The owner told me he was restocking, but that was months ago.
I'm lovin that coat lining, can't wait to see the finished product :)
And how funny is that about the same top??? Strangely enough, I think people in my town do it purposely- "Ms. Jones has this top, I want one too". All the desperate housewives in Mtown dress (look) alike. So glad I sew.
Great job on the sewing of the coat. Funny story about your co-workers. I had the same prom dress as another girl back in high school. I went to a relatively small high school so it wasn't too fun to be a twin at prom.
Funny story! It *is* good to sew for yourself isn't it? Your coat is looking great.
ROTFLOL! Okay that was just toooooo funny! But Karen if you think that's bad - think of how often a plus size woman must see herself coming and going since the selection for plus size women is even smaller - yeah...I'm glad I sew too!
What a funny story about the triplet set! Moving up your blog posts...can't wait to see the finished coat.
