Maxwell Peapod, 1998 - 2012
I was away this past weekend. Left Friday a.m. and came back Sunday night. On Friday afternoon, right after I'd arrived at my destination, I got a call from our housemate. She'd come downstairs and found Max, laboring to breathe. I called Mario, who was on his way home from work. Our housemate got Max into his carrier and together they drove him the 10 blocks to the University of Pennsylvania's vet hospital.
They got there. They ran inside. The vet looked at Max and said that he was already gone. He must have died in the carrier on the way there.
I think Max planned it that way. I was away. Mario was at work. He didn't expect to be found; he certainly didn't want any more quality time with the doctor. I think he was tired and wanted to rest, without any more help from us.
It still rips me up that I wasn't here for him.
I leave you with the best of Max.
He was a chick magnet.
Who still had time for his buddy
He took joy in sunshine
He had opinions on literature
He had no false modesty
He enjoyed a good pizza. Or any pizza.
Social media made him tired.
He could be comfortable anywhere
He thought deep thoughts
He took a gold in synchronized sleeping
He will be missed.
I am so so sorry for the loss of Max.
I'm sorry for your loss. It's easy to see that this handsome boy was wll loved.
I'm sorry for your loss.
Please raise a toast to Max for a life well-lived!
Oh no! I am so sorry for your loss. Farewell, Max.
I'm so sorry to hear about Max. Cats are amazingly resilient, until they're not. When you look at one and realize the end is near, it's really close. I had a cat that died in my arms on the way to the vet. Claudine
I'm so sorry for your loss, Karen. He was obviously a well-loved cat and lived well. Hugs to you.
Karen, so sorry to this sad news. My heart is with you. Hugs.
So sorry to learn of your loss.
Sorry for the loss of your kitty, he looked like he had had a good life
You gave him a wonderful life. My condolences.
So very sad to hear this. Sorry for your loss.
So sorry to hear about your loss. I am all too familiar with the pain. I had to say goodbye to my 16-year-old cat in May...and it still feels like yesterday. I received this tiny, huge-eared black kitten for my 11th birthday, and she went through so much with me. Tomorrow's my first birthday without her :(
Oh Karen, I'm sorry. I hope your house isn't too quiet with Max missing. g
I'm sorry for your loss.
I sympathise - got two rescued furry flatmates myself. But I have to say that your photos of Max are wonderful. A life well lived!

I'm so sorry Max left you so suddenly. He was a wonderful soul.
Poor you! It must have been hard not to be there to hold him. He was so cute.
I'm so sorry. My mother had a cat who passed while she was out of town and I think Pea Brain did the same thing. She waited until her person was away. My hubby and I took her to the vet and then did the right thing for her. It sucked and I know it sucks for you. Max had good people and he was a lucky, lucky guy.
Karen, my heart breaks for you and Mario witht he loss of Max. Max as surely a handsome fellow and quite a character from his pictures. I know he brought you great joy and you gave him a fantastic home.
Oh Karen, my heart breaks that you weren't there to say goodbye to Max. Goodbye Max, a good and faithful cat!
What a character. Sorry for your loss. I have been there. I lost Murphy exactly 10 yrs ago. I will give my Axl and Tyler an extra hug tonight. Life is short.
Awww Karen. It looks like Max had a great life!! Loved all the pix.
I know how hard it is to lose a faithful friend after so many years. My thoughts are with you.
I'm so sorry for your loss, but I'm sure you are right that he chose his own time to go--cats do that. He looks like he was a charmer.
I'm so, so sorry.
I am so sorry. You are right; Max chose his time. He lives on in your heart. Hugs.
Thank you for sharing Max in your blog. We will all miss him. I am very sorry for your loss.
I'm so sorry. It's so hard to lose a pet so beloved. Take care.
I'm just catching up with your blog. I'm so sorry to hear about the bad things that have been happening recently. Hopefully things will calm and then begin to get better. You'll always have both Max and your aunt in your hearts. I hope that can give you some solace.
